Spain is not new to foreign students and there are plenty of residency options according to your preferences and requirements, all you have to do is gather all the information regarding cost you can afford. Here are types of student accommodations available in Spain:
Dormitories
Dormitories or campus provided residency is first priority accommodation for students because of its many benefits. It’s near to university, meeting your fellow students, most affordable and almost all of them offer meals. There are also attached kitchens in some dormitories for cooking.
One Room or Studio Apartments
An expensive but more private option for those who can afford and like to live alone. It has many perks which include kitchenette, laundry room, T-V and cable facility and much more. The rent can be paid per month or week. These extended stay hostels are available all around Spain.
Host Families
If you are not shy and can share your home with a friendly foreign family then this style of living with a Host Family is right option for you. Host families are present in every city of Spain. It has many perks which include fastest way to learn Spanish language, never feeling homesick and also getting cooked meal. As a Pakistani, it’s easiest because we have a habit of living with family and we can quickly adopt their house rules. But if you want to be independent then this is not so right option for you.
Sharing Home Space with a Roommate
It is not a new thing for students to share a room or a house with a roommate. Actually it is a very smart choice. You can divide cost of living, home chores, running errands and also help each other if one gets sick. It’s always good to have someone you know in a foreign country. But you must learn about all the facts and information about the person you are choosing as your roommate because the wrong choice can also put you in trouble in a foreign land. Mostly students choose roommates hailing from their own country which is wise because of same language and same food.
Apartments/Flats
It is the least chosen option by students among all the above. It’s expensive and difficult to find. The flats and apartments are rented by private owners; you have to talk to a dealer about the rental process. They are less likely to be available in small cities. If you want one of these then it’s preferable to find them in Madrid and Barcelona.
Location
The prices, rent and other bills may vary in different location. It is best to look for location that suits your needs and affordability.
