Job Summary:
UNICEF Pakistan is dedicated to supporting the Government of Pakistan in addressing the critical impacts of climate change on children and marginalized communities. In alignment with the Government of Pakistan-UNICEF program, this role prioritizes child-sensitive climate policies that are designed with input from children, youth, and future generations.
The Climate Change Consultant will provide strategic guidance and technical expertise to provincial climate authorities, ensuring children remain central to provincial climate action and investments.
Objective and Scope of Work:
The consultant will be engaged for 12 months to:
- Provide Strategic Guidance:
- Assist the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Climate Change Forestry, Environment, and Wildlife Department (FE&WD) and the Climate Change Cell in the Planning and Development Department.
- Formulate and Implement Policies:
- Develop and execute climate change policies, strategies, and plans addressing environmental challenges.
- Promote Child-Centered Approaches:
- Ensure climate action and investments prioritize children.
Required Experience:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in environment, climate change, or a related field.
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience may be considered.
- Professional Expertise:
- Proven experience in the development, review, and implementation of climate change and environmental policies and strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of climate change science, mitigation, and adaptation mechanisms, including international agreements (e.g., Paris Agreement) and frameworks (e.g., Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction).
- Strong understanding of government structures, processes, and coordination mechanisms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
- Desirable Skills:
- Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting, including experience with statistical tools and environmental data.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite for reporting and presentations.
Language Requirements:
- Mandatory: Fluency in English.
- Desirable: Knowledge of a local language.
