Conserve Electricity to Reduce Load Shedding

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER AT THE LAHORE ELECTRIC SUPPLY COMPANY (LESCO)

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE), operates a power distribution network supplying electricity to more than 6.62 million valued consumers in the approved geographic territory of Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana.

LESCO is offering qualified lawyers an opportunity to apply for the position of Chief Legal Officer, a senior-level professional role within the company. Applicants are expected to have a strong legal background with an in-depth understanding of statutory regimes governing the power sector, as well as familiarity with the legal processes and regulatory affairs surrounding the electricity market.

Responsibilities and Skills:

The main responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Board of Directors LESCO: Overseeing legal and regulatory affairs at LESCO and providing effective legal advice and opinions while coordinating with various departments.
  • Developing and leading corporate legal strategies: Creating strategies favorable to the company’s business operations and protecting its interests effectively.
  • Rendering oral and written legal opinions: Advising the management, CEO, Board of Directors, and stakeholders on legal matters concerning LESCO’s operations, liaising with and appearing before regulatory authorities and government bodies.
  • Drafting legal instruments: Preparing contracts, representations, and other documents as required.
  • Managing litigation: Overseeing ongoing/anticipated lawsuits involving LESCO and coordinating with external legal counsel to secure favorable outcomes for the company.

Required Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations specific to the electricity distribution sector.
  • In-depth understanding of market and industry trends from a legal perspective.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal affairs, litigation processes, regimes, and structures, with experience in advocacy and practice before all courts of law across Pakistan, including civil courts, high courts, tribunals, etc.
  • Familiarity with modern legal practices such as arbitration, mediation, and applicable laws on the subject, both local and international.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, cultivate community relationships, and establish a long-term vision for LESCO’s legal department.
  • Advocacy skills to effectively present LESCO’s stance and outlook, demonstrating integrity, accountability, and responsibility in executing tasks both ethically and effectively.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a reputable HEC recognized university. A Master’s Degree (LL.M) and/or Bar at Law will be given added weightage.
  • Experience: At least 15 years of post-qualification relevant experience in the legal field, with significant exposure through practice before lower and high courts across Pakistan. Licensed Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan.
  • Strong background in corporate, commercial law, and contract negotiations, preferably related to the power sector at both national and international levels.

Remuneration & Contract Period:

A market-based competitive salary package will be offered, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The initial contract period is three (3) years, extendable on satisfactory performance with annual evaluations by the Board of Directors, LESCO, against agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Attested copy of registration/Membership with the relevant Professional Governing Body, if applicable
  • Detailed separate list of experience along with experience letter/certificate/reference letter
