USAID holds graduation ceremony for 98 ambitious teachers from Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit: The US Agency for International Development (USAID) on Thursday organized a graduation ceremony for 98 brilliant aspirants registered in the two-year Associate Degree in Education (ADE) in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Minister of Education and Information, Muhammad Ibrahim Sanai while addressing on the event said that, “The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan is proud of our aspirants who have taken the great responsibility of preceding the future generations. We thank the government of US for assisting Pakistan in progressing the overall quality of basic education.”

He said that USAID has distributed more than 3,100 scholarships to aspiring teachers crosswise Pakistan involving 293 scholarships for Gilgit-Baltistan students.

Uzma Amin, an ADE graduate said, “Becoming a teacher was a lasting dream for me. This program, with along with its particular training and challenging coursework, has assisted me in learning as well as in developing the skills that I need in achieving this dream.”

The $165 million USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project is designed to support provincial and regional Departments of Education to improve the reading skills of primary school children across the country. The key to improving students’ reading skills is providing teachers with innovative and interactive ways to teach children how to read.

Secretary of Education for Gilgit-Baltistan also attended the ceremony.
