Universities Concerns On HEC Decision To Dissolve Two Year BA/Bsc Degree Programmes

According to the sources, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has been issued a final direction to eradicate two year BA/BSc degree programmes. The decision has been finalized without developing adequate capacity for absorbing those students who are affected due to the way out of two year degree programmes. All public and private universities are planning to resist HEC decision because students with low privileged areas will be unable to get any education after intermediate.

A Final Direction to all Universities

Previously, HEC issued a guideline to all public and private universities of the country to replace two year degree programmes with Associate Degree (AD) programmes. Furthermore, it is also directed that all universities will not offer MA/MSc programmes after 2020, when the ongoing programmes will end.

Meeting of Vice Chancellors and HEC Chairman

During the meeting with HEC chairman Tariq Burani last week. All public and private universities vice chancellor resist on this decision as they don’t have enough resources to start a new Associate Degree (AD) programmes. It was also highlighted during the meeting that thousands of students will deprived from masters or graduation degree as private candidates. Moreover, the worst hit was female of low privileged areas who earn private education at a low cost for better economic prospects.

Abolishing of Two Year Degree Programs

Educational analyst criticized HEC decision as they presume that without proper development of adequate capacity to shift all universities in new mode the decision could not be effectively implemented. Due to lack of resources institutions still face problems to implement semester system in a more effective manner. According to the Vice Chancellors of different universities, they will request HEC to review its decision for abolishing of two year BA/BSc or MA/MSc degree programmes. They said this decision will not only reduce the opportunity for students but it also builds pressure for universities- who are unable to fulfill HEC requirements.
