UET to offer four new degrees from next academic session

Taxila: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila will be launching 4 new academic programmes and different financial schemes for MS and PhD scholars soon.

While talking to media on Wednesday, the Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed said that the university will offer admissions in a four-year Bio Engineering programme from the next academic year and also a BSc in civil, electrical and mechanical technology.

He furthermore said that bioengineering is being introduced at an engineering university in the country for the very first time.

He furthermore said that in a bid to enhance the quality of research in the university, the university will be launching financial incentive programmes for masters as well as for PhD students in which MS students will be paid 30,000 Rupees whereas PhD scholars will be paid 60,000 Rupees so that they can be more financially independent.

The VC further added that the scholars will be spending 3 days of the working week in local industries to offer them a hands-on experience.

University of Engineering and Technology has offered a 40 percent concession in tuition fee to those aspirants who will perform community services in their native areas zones and the university will provide cash compensation to those aspirants who come up along with the pioneering ideas.

The 3 new departments, that of environmental, industrial and electrical engineering, which will offer 4 years bachelor degrees and also MS and PhD programmes will start functioning from February 2017 and that student registered will also be increased in the civil, electrical and mechanical engineering programs from the next academic session.
