Seminar on violence against women at PU

Lahore, Punjab University Department of Gender Studies is celebrating “16 Days of Activism on Violence against Women” on Thursday (today) December 13 at 10am at department’s Munawar Mirza Hall.

Debate competition on “Domestic Violence Bill: A Blessing or a Curse?”, poster competition and skits would be organized. Ms Fozia Waqar from Shirkat Gah and Mr Dawood Saqlain from Action Aid will be guest speakers.

Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce arranged prize distribution ceremony of Financial Accounting Competition 2012 to distribute prizes among the winners of the competition. ACCA Pakistan Country Head Haroon Jan, CEO Skans Sajid Hussain, Prof Dr Hassan Mubeen Alam, Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed, Prof Abdul Jabbar, Prof Amir Malik, Prof Dr Salman Rizvi, other faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

As many as 277 competitors from 30 affiliated commerce colleges. Punjab College City Campus, Punjab College Muslim Town, IBL College Faisal Town Lahore, Superior College Sargodha and Punjab College Gojar Khan secured first, second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Addressing the ceremony, PU HCC student adviser Prof Syed Naeem congratulated the winners and shared views on the benefits of accounting subject and its need. Mr Haroon Jan said that they would continue to sponsor such healthy events in future. He said further that ACCA was the best option for adopting accounting career.

The first-ever international conference on calligraphy titled “Sarir-e-Khama: Art of Pen” in the history of Punjab University started at University College of Art & Design, Old Campus on Monday.

In this regard, an opening ceremony was arranged at Senate Hall in which famous industrialist Syed Baber Ali participated as chief guest while PU VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Principal PUCAD Prof Dr Rahat Naveed Masood, Director General and Cultural Attaché Iranian Cultural Centre Lahore Prof Dr Abbas Khamori, world’s distinguished calligrapher and Baghdad University’s professor Dr Sallah Shahzad, Pakistan Calligraphers Association General Secretary Irfan Qureshi, renowned calligraphers from Middle East, Iran, Turkey and Pakistan, faculty members and a large number of students and people from various walks of life were present on the occasion.
