Punjab University plans to set up medical college in Lahore

Lahore: University of the Punjab is making a plan to build up a medical college in Lahore to provide world-class medical education and best research facilities to the aspirants of medical field.

On Tuesday, an office of Punjab University Medical College (PUMC) project was inaugurated at Al-Razi Hall, where Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, President of Academic Staff Association Javed Sami, faculty members as well as large number of students were also present there.

During his address, Gillani said that the providing high-quality education was the priority of the government and numerous steps have been taken to promote the culture of research as well as innovation.

“Setting up a medical college is an important priority as it would provide quality education to the aspirants,” he said.

The higher education minister furthermore said that the government wanted to take at least 5 government universities, including the Punjab University, among the top 500 universities of the world.

“Faculty development programme has been launched so that the teachers can grasp the advanced educational concepts and transform their aspirants into the best professionals,” he added, requesting the teachers to focus particularly on weak students and to assist them in build their personalities.

Gillani said that varsities were the greatest strength against poverty as well as ignorance.

“Universities are the innovation accelerators that pervade innovative ideas and vision among the aspirants,” said Gillani.
