Lahore: On Tuesday, the Lahore high court (LHC) dismissed a petition challenging the quota reserved for provinces for the employments in service of Pakistan through Central Superior Services (CSS) and upcoming exams under the quota.

Justice Ayesha A Malik in her rejection order observed that the plea was not bearable before the high court because it also involved the rights of other provinces as well.

Justice Ayesha Malik said that the high court of one province cannot pass a final decision on an issue also relevant to the other provinces.

Numerous candidates of CSS, also including Muhammad Talib, had filed a plea petitioning that a quota was allotted to the provinces under Article 47 of the Constitution for a period of 40 years.

Though, they added, the quota was still same in spite of the expiry of 40-year limit in 2013.

The requesters said that the eligible applicants had been subjected to discrimination in the name of the reserved quota for the provinces.

In their plea they asked the court to hold back the reserved quota for the provinces and stay the CSS exams scheduled to be held under the current system.

In this case, the government of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) as well as Balochistan had challenged the jurisdiction of Lahore High Court to hear a case about the allocation of quota for other provinces. They said the Supreme Court had the jurisdiction to hear such matter.
