Peshawar University to discontinue evening shift of BS program

Peshawar, Peshawar University is going to end its evening shift of four year BS program from the next academic session. The evening shift of BS program was introduced in 2009 by Peshawar University to produce profits.

UoP Vice-chancellor Dr Rasul Jan said that second shift of BS program is not financially fit and from this September it would be finished. He further said that they want to increase the ranking of Peshawar University among the international universities and it can only be done by enhancing its quality of education rather the quantity of education. The efforts are being made to enhance the quality of education by producing PhD degrees. At present out of 680 teachers, only 220 have PhD degrees while around 340 are getting education in PhD programs at the university.

He further said that around 2,200 students are getting education at 43 departments and institutes of Peshawar University. The fee for BS program students in the morning shift is Rs18,000 per annum while the fee for second shift’s students is Rs45,000 for science classes and Rs35,000 for arts. Moreover the lecturers are paid Rs590 per class, assistant professor Rs700 and professors are paid Rs1000 per class in the evening shift.

He said 20 universities are delivering educational services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in public sector, UoP is the highest priority of the students across the province and currently the number of students registered at UoP is around 14,000.

Dr Jan is working at the UoP since 1985 and become vice-chancellor of University of Malakand in 2008. University of Peshawar was came into being in October 30, 1950. UoP is the largest Public sector University in Peshawar and is famous for its best academics and quality of education.

Moreover, University of Peshawar has announced the date sheet for B.Com Part 1, B.Com Part 2, B.Com (Hons) and M.Com Part 1 M.Com Part 2 Previous and Final Annual Examinations 2013. The exams are schedule to be started from June 12, 2013. The detail date sheet can be seen at the university website www.upesh.edu.pk.
