Lahore, Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) organized its 13th annual convocation on Thursday in which over 300 fresh doctors get degrees. The degrees and awards were presented by Acting Governor Rana Muhammad Iqbal and AIMC Principal Prof Dr Mahmood Shaukat.
The award of ‘best student of the year’ was presented to a graduate student Shehryar Jafary and got a unique position among all the fellows. He was awarded with 13 gold medals, one silver medal and get appreciation from the senior faculty members.
As many as 22 gold and silver medals were also awarded to other students other on the basis of their performance in different subjects and classes. All the talented students get appreciation from the acting governor. While speaking on the occasion the he said that AIMC has got the distinction as a second top merit medical college across the Punjab and it is because of the hard work of faculty and management team.
On this occasion he also asked the acting governor to support for setting up new hostels for the girls. The event was attended by the senior faculty members of the AIMC, nursing staff, paramedics and parents of fresh graduates.
The college was set up in1975 as a public school of medicine, nursing and allied health sciences in Lahore. Jinnah hospital is linked with the college as a teaching hospital. The Allama Iqbal Medical College is spread on the area of 105 acres. The founder of AIMC was Founder PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and he inaugurated the college. At that time it had gotten the name of Lahore Medical College which was started in the small building. Now college has been shifted in new campus which is next to Punjab University New Campus.
