Online College Admission System is being rolled out for government sector colleges

Presently, if you are applying for admissions at government sector colleges in Punjab, you may want to check out the latest guidelines issued by the Punjab Higher Education Department (HED).

These guidelines are the part of the Admission Policy 2016 and their main feature is that colleges have been instructed to offer admissions online through a system developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in association along with HED.

Main features of the Online College Admission System

More than 700 government colleges can utilize the Online College Admission System (OCAS) developed by PITB for the submission as well as to process applications for FA, FSc and ICS programs.

Given below are some main features of the OCAS system:

•             Only 25Rs are charged per application.

•             Aspirants can apply to more than one college.

•             The name of student will appear in merit list of college.

•             3-step system for applying to colleges.

•             More than 700 government sector colleges are part of the program.

The colleges have been directed to display the merit list also on their campuses.

Admission Criteria

Furthermore, the policy document also provides the outline for admissions criteria. It said that:

•             Admissions on sports basis will be valid just for the humanities group.

•             Certificates of divisions should also be attached along with the related sports.

•             The aspirants along with 75 percent attendance in college lectures will be qualified for BISE exams

•             O-Level aspirants are required to attach equivalence certificates issued by Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen

•             Identity cards of aspirants are a must when they are at the colleges.

Measures like these are much required in order to ease the admissions procedure as well as the burden that it brings for parents, aspirants and the educational institutes. Along with the less hassles involved, educational institutes can take care of the admissions at a faster pace as compared to before. Parents as well as the aspirants will no longer have to brave the sweltering heat in the admission season.
