BISE Karachi students, we have an essential update for you all! Inter passing marks have been increased! In a significant development aimed at reforming the education system in Sindh, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) announced recently that the passing marks for intermediate part 1 and part 2 students will be increased from 33 to 40 marks. This decision will be implemented starting from the next academic year (2025). This major step is part of broader efforts of Karachi board to enhance the educational standards across the province.
IBCC Announces Educational Reforms
During a press conference, IBCC Executive Director Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah elaborated on the recent BISE Karachi inter passing marks decision made by the commission. He highlighted that this move is a result of a sub-committee meeting held at the Karachi Secondary Education Board, where various proposals were discussed. The meeting concluded with the agreed decision that all educational boards in the Sindh must now adopt the new inter passing marks criteria.
Grace Marks Will Also Be Introduced
In addition to increasing the Karachi Board inter passing marks, Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah also announced the introduction of grace marks for students. This initiative is part of educational reform plan designed to support students in their academic pursuits. He further explained that the exam format would shift from an open-choice to a close-choice format, providing students with 100 percent options in exams, making the assessment process more standardized and fair.
Implementation Challenges in Sindh
Despite the nationwide approval of a new grading policy for matric and intermediate level classes, the implementation of this policy in Sindh has faced delays. This has been attributed to a lack of interest from the relevant authorities. To address this issue, the Federal Ministry of Education issued a formal letter to the Department of Universities and Boards of the Government of Sindh on 6th March 2024. The letter emphasized the importance of implementing the new grading system and aligning it with the new passing marks set at 40 across all educational boards. And the Sindh educational boards have now announced the new minimum inter passing marks recently.
Uniform Passing Marks Across Pakistan
The other provinces in Pakistan have already raised the minimum board exam passing marks for students in classes 9 to 12. With Sindh now on board, the increase in inter passing marks will be implemented from the next academic year (2025), ensuring uniformity in academic standards across the country. This measure is expected to elevate the quality of education and will prepare students better for higher academic challenges in future.
