LAHORE: Finally the government of Punjab has taken a practical step to increase BDS and MBBS seats in all the dental and mental colleges of Punjab. The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education (SHC&ME) department has instructed to the principles of all the medical colleges to direct application to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for reviews.

A member of SHC&ME department said that all dental and medical colleges has been requested to give in the mandatory documents to Pakistan Medical and dental council for upsurge of seats of  BDS and MBBS from 3621 to 4450.

 He further added that according to PMDC criteria the number of seats would be increased after checking and evaluating the infrastructure and the teaching facilities. The number of seats increased in colleges are as following:

  1. King Edward Medical University, Lahore has increased 25 seats.
  2. Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore has increased 50 seats.
  3. Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex, Lahore has increased 50 seats.
  4. Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore, has increased 25 seats.
  5. Services Institute of Medical Sciences Lahore, has increased 50 seats.
  6. Ameer-ud-Din Medical College has increased 50 seats.
  7. Gujranwala Medical College has increased 50 seats.
  8.  Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad has increased 25 seats.
  9.  Nishtar Medical College, Multan has increased 25 seats.
  10.  Quaid e Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur has increased 25 seats.
  11.  Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan has increased 50 seats.
  12.  Ghazi Khan Medical College, Dera Ghazi Khan has increased 50 seats.
  13.  Sargodha Medical College has increased 50 seats.
  14.  Sahiwal Medical College has increased 50 seats.
  15.  Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat has increased 50 seats.
  16.  Rawalpindi Medical College has increased 20 seats.
  17.  Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College, Sialkot has increased 50 seats.
  18.  Nishtar Dental College, Multan has increased 44 seats.
  19.  De'Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore has increased 50 seats.
  20.  Dental Section Punjab Medical College has increased 50 seats.

 

Lastly he mentioned that the number of admissions in an MBBS course shall not exceed 350 in a public college whereas the total number of seats in BDS course shall also not increase from 100 in public dental colleges.
