Lahore University of Management Sciences on Monday honoured its aspirants of ‘Team FATE’ who won the first prize in the ‘P2P: Challenging Extremism’ competition that was organized by the Edventure Partners, Facebook as well as the US Department of State.

The pro Chancellor of LUMS Syed Babar Ali, its Vice Chancellor Dr Sohail Naqvi as well as the Assistant Professor and the Team Leader Taimur Rahman were present in the prize distribution ceremony.

The team FATE was supervised by the team leader Dr Taimur Rahman and the Assistant Professor of LUMS School of Humanities and Social Sciences Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani. The team FATE comprised of six member that includes Mashal Imran, Basil Saeed, Usman Sarwar, Samey Noor, Abeera Akhtar, and also Shahroz Tariq. These undergraduate students designed and hold the campaign named as FATE, the abbreviation of ‘From Apathy to Empathy’, that was targeted to make compassion between aspirants for the sufferers of terrorism.

On the event organized on Monday, the Team FATE presented their campaign again for the community of LUMS. They explained how, throughout the course of the semester, they utilized the artistic techniques to engage along with aspirant body and the wider community on social media with the help of music, tourism, humanizing the victims of terrorism as well as other features of social life.

Furthermore, the aspirants shared that how in the short time period of just 5 weeks; they managed to get more than 14,000 likes and in total over half a million impressions on social media.

The campaign of LUMS students was one of the most viral campaigns of all the competitors in the competition. They were nominated between the three finalists and then travelled to Washington for the final stage of competition, where they were announced as the winners of the competition.

While sharing their views, team members said; that it was a proud moment for them when their presentation received thumbs up and enormous admiration.

The team leader also shared some highlights of competition and said that he was proud of his aspirants for having worked untiringly for the betterment of their country, for doing their part to build a charitable and complete broad society, and for bringing generosity to LUMS as well as to our country.

He added “Where there is cruelty, there will always be struggle, these aspirants standing up to violent fanaticism represent an advanced future for Pakistan”.

The Pro chancellor of LUMS Syed Babar Ali ended the event by congratulating the faculty and the aspirants on this exceptional achievement.
