Karachi, The Vice Chancellor of University of Karachi, Dr Mohammed Qaiser has initiated a thalassemia screening centre at the university and also revealed that soon KU will be changed into a “thalassemia free educational institution”.
Omair Sana Foundation (OSF) which is a non-governmental body and is occupied in the removal of thalassemia and such other health issue of genetic blood syndromes had opened the Thalassemia Screening Centre at the Karachi University.
KU VC said that this center will educate the students and bring awareness to save themselves from such diseases and genetic syndromes. He further said that by converting the KU into thalassemia-free area in coming four or five years it would reduce the ratio of this diseases with the assistance of OSF specialists and people will be get aware of its causes and protection.
Haematologist Dr Saqib Hussain Ansari, Dr Rahat Hussain, Dr Zeeshan Ansari and Obaid Hashmi of OSF and Student adviser at KU Dr Ansar Rizvi were also present on this occasion.
Moreover, The annual result of LLM exams 2012 has been declared by Karachi University.
The first position went to Zaheer Abbas the student of S.M. Govt Law College. He got 471 marks out of 800 while the second position was taken by Umar Farooq with 470 marks. He is also the student of S.M. Govt Law College. Hazrat Hussain the student of Govt Islamia Law College clinched third position and got 469 marks.
As many as 164 candidates were registered for the exam and the pass percentage was 39.63. The officials said that mark sheets have been issued to all the concerned students.
Besides, KU is going to open admissions from May 06 in MPhil, PhD and MS in Surgery, MD in Medicine courses for the year 2013. The concerned department of the university will receive admission forms and fee of Rs2,000 till May 25. The admission forms and prospectus are available the university website.
