HEC planning to convert universities into ‘Smart Universities’

Peshawar: Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan is making a strategy to convert all the universities into smart universities' by offering unlimited internet facility for the digitalization of all its functions within the premises of universities.

This view was ashared by the chairperson of HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed while inaugurating Psychology Research Center in Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Peshawar on Tuesday.

This research centre was set up by SBBWU Peshawar in association along with Southern Methodist University under the spearhead by HEC the centre is armed along with the advanced equipment and books which would be highly resourceful to the research scholars of province.

On the event, the head of higher education also distributed laptops among 71 students of Undergraduate and Graduate level under the third distribution of 2nd phase of Prime Minister's Laptop Scheme.

Furthermore, the cheques were also presented to 72 students of various departments under Higher Education Commission Need based Scholarship Programme.

While addressing to the participants of the ceremony, Dr Mukhtar shared that 48% females and 52% males working in different departments of HEC and this ratio would be increased definitely in coming years.

"We are paying our proper attention on research and provide all the possible facilities to the varsities of the country to bring them at par along with the west. Quaid e Azam University is the top research university in Pakistan and 12,000 research papers are added in the pool of knowledge which is a undoubtedly a main contribution and pride for Pakistan," said Dr Mukhtar.

The chairperson furthermore said that the Higher Education Commission is planning to convert all the universities into 'Smart Universities' by proving unlimited internet facility to all the universities.

Moroever, at the event, Dr Mukhtar presented Rs 10 million cheque to SBBWU Peshawar Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Razia Sultana for strengthening the sports equipment and set-up besides he gives approval of construction of 2 hostel buildings and academic block in the main campus of university.
