Islamabad: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) in consultation along with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) might suspend engineering programmes at almost 14 universities, for not meeting the set international standards.

According to an official, “This decision has been taken to maintain the standards of teaching at engineering educational institutes, at par along with the international level, particularly after Pakistan became the member of Washington Accord.”
Though, as per the sources, the issue is under consideration and there also is also a possibility to first warn these varsities universities to improve their teaching standard.
“However, on this issue an early decision is expected. These engineering institutes will have to face strict decision if they fail to comply along with the international standard of teaching,” an official added.

Total 19 countries also including Pakistan are the member of Washington Accord, and the forum is targeted to set high performance as well as standards at international level in the field of engineering.
The degrees of the engineering aspirants of Washington Accord member states will be accepted in 60 countries across the world.
Pakistan is the 19th member country of Washington Accord while third country in Islamic states after Malaysia and Turkey.
