HEC expected to issue status of government sector university to AUST

Abbottabad: The Abbottabad University of Science & Technology (AUST) is expected to get a no-objection certificate (NoC) from Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan as it has fulfilled all the necessary requirements for getting the status of a government sector university.

While talking to media, the Vice Chancellor of AUST Professor Dr Iftikhar Ahmed said that the Adviser to the CM on Information and Public Relations Mushtaq Ghani formally inaugurated AUST on September 5, 2015. But, the university had failed to get a NoC owing to the particular shortcomings that the inspection team of commission (HEC) pointed out.

Ahmed said that the selection of Vice Chancellor, composition of management bodies, shortage of faculty as well as the buildings were the causes that had prevented AUST from getting its legal status. “However, now things have improved and we have almost met the needs essential for the NOC,” he added.

Furthermore, Ahmed said that along with the issuance of NOC, the university, which was located at a main location on the side of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route, will develop fast.

He showed the hope that university would be made entitled to HEC funding programmes besides attaining the status of a government sector university.

“Without enjoying the status of a varsity, AUST will be nothing more than a piece of paper,” said Ahmed.
