Lahore, ‘Hope’, a documentary made by the students of Mass Communication Department FC College, won the first prize in a district-wide awareness documentary contest held in University of Central Punjab on Saturday, 7 May 2011. The second and third position went to the UCP.

The documentary was made by Aisha Saeed, Asma Siddique and Ahmed Javid and was based on the suffering and unawareness of Thalassemia, a fetal blood disease, and its rise in Pakistan. It also focused on the importance of blood donation and the need for blood testing before marriage. It depicted glimpses of people suffering with the disease and showcased their dependency on donated blood.

The event was organized by UCP’s society, Jehaad for Zero Thalassemia, in collaboration with Fatimid Foundation. The contest was held to celebrate World Thalassemia Day which is observed throughout the world on 8 May. Twelve teams from different institutions of Lahore participated including two teams from FC College. After the screening of documentaries children suffering from Thalassemia presented a live act. The event ended with a walk and candlelit dedication to show support to the patients.
