Lahore: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore (BISE Lahore) rather than making it a comfortable experience for the inter level students has made it difficult as well as a bit costly for them to get free laptops under the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme.

The officials of board rather than directly asking the educational institutes, where the students are presently registered in the intermediate level classes, to provide the list of their bona-fide aspirants who are eligible for the grant of laptops has put the students in trouble by instructing them to collect “bona-fide student certificate” from their respective institutes and submit to the board together with the required documents.

The aspirants claim that since they passed their matric from the same board there was no need of submitting B-Form again however the officials of board were demanding the same too together with the certificate.

The apsirants furthermore said that their educational institutes were demanding money for the issuance of “bona-fide student certificate”.

They argue that the educational board rather than asking the students, should have directly contacted their institutes and get their data.

“Our varsity, GCU is charging Rs 600 from each student for this certificate”, said one of the aspirants on secrecy basis.

A GCU representative, seeking secrecy, said that the fee against “Bona-fide Student Certificate” was duly approved by the syndicate of university and further added that the Board should have directly contacted institutes for lists of bona-fide and eligible candidates.

When contacted, the additional secretary of Punjab Higher Education Department Ajmal Bhatti expressed ignorance regarding this situation for the grant of laptops and said he will look into this matter.

The Chairperson of BISE Lahore board Prof Ch Muhammad Ismail said that the Board was following the orders of government and added that the condition for bona-fide certificate was in place so that just the aspirants who were continuing further education get the laptops.

Prof Ismail further added that the condition of B-Form or the copy of CNIC of father was meant to ensure no mala-fides on the part of the applicants.

“There had been examples in past where some applicants got more than one laptop”, he said.

To a question he said that the apiarist who obtained 90 percent or more than 90 percent marks were eligible to apply for the grant of laptop.
