Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad (AIOU) would convert its marking system of academic results into grade point average (GPA) as well as cumulative grade point average (CGPA) to facilitate its aspirants in chasing their future career.
The suggestion to this outcome was officially adopted by the academic council of the university at its meeting which was organized under the supervision of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui.
It was agreed that GPA/CGPA formula of Higher Education Commission would be applied for all M.Sc, MS or M.Phil, Honors, as well as Ph.D programs where the passing percentage is 50 percent. This will be in addition to the GPA/CGPA system already approved by the executive council of the University for All 4 years Bachelor Programs.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui has said that the University required adopting the similar system in the marking procedure of result and hence its aspirants can compete along with the aspirants of other Universities at national as well as at international level for the purpose of admission to higher classes and for the employment against the different posts.
With regard to the requests of the older aspirants to convert their transcripts or their degrees marks into GPA or CGPA, it was decided that they granted along with the same advantage provided they meet the criteria of HEC or the Executive Council.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that the step is part of support system of aspirants, taking care of their academic interest, whereas certifying the quality education at all levels. He also said that, on the other hand the university is busy in improving the examination system, keeping up the transparency and merit in the overall procedure.
