On the success of Pakistan Phil Baty, the editor of Times Higher Education rankings, said:

“It is really good news that Pakistan has really improved its representation in the list of 2017 of best universities in Asia, by taking 7 places, up from two last year.

COMSATS Institute of Information Technology is the only new entry to make its place in top 200.

“Though, the two well-known Pakistani varsities have dropped their places, in spite of the fact that their overall scores had not declined since last year; Quaid-i-azam University drops from 101-110 to 121-130, whereas the National University of Sciences and Technology drops from 121-130 to 151-160.

Their drop is because of the other top leading Asian universities improving at a faster speed and increased competition in the list; the Times Higher Education ranking now includes 300 universities, more than 200 of last year.

However, just 10 percent of the university-age population of the university goes there, which is much lower as compared to the equivalent figures in India and Sri Lanka.

Overall on the South Asian region, Phil Baty said that:

“India is the higher education star of South Asian zone, taking almost 33 places in the ranking list of this year, which is more than double its representation of last year.
