Lahore: University of Education on Thursday organized its 5th convocation at Township Campus.

Total 5,888 students were awarded degrees in the convocation.

The vice chancellor of University of Education Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam headed the convocation.

Education minister, Pro Chancellor Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Chairperson of Punjab Higher Education Dr Nizamud Din were the chief guests on the event.

The candidates who received degrees included: 2,504 students of B.Ed, 67 students of B.Ed special education, 490 students of M.Ed, 107 students of M.Ed and MA special education, 67 students of BFA, 331 students of MA education, 29 students of MA education (L&M), 493 students of MA, 497 students of MS, 200 students of MBA, 187 students of BBA (Hons), 187 students of BS (Hons), 107 MPhil students and 15 PhDs.

Furthermore, 196 gold medals were presented to the position holders.

Addressing the convocation, the pro chancellor congratulated the students, said: "We have gathered here to celebrate your excellent success. It is now your duty to pay back to the nation and contribute to the nation building and development."

During his address he furthermore said that government was committed to ensuring quality education and that the Punjab government had taken solid steps for the improvement of education like appointment of teachers on merit basis, establishment of computer labs at schools and colleges, provision of laptops to the brilliant students.

The vice chancellor of University of Education Prof Dr Rauf -i-Azam also congratulated the aspirants and said, "385 regular faculty members are serving at different campuses and divisions of University of Education. Currently 104 PhD and 170 MPhil faculty members, highly educated university faculty together with other accomplishments, places the university in Higher Education Commission ranking at 12th position.

In his address, the chairperson of Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr Nizamud Din extended his appreciation to all those who had, over the years, contributed their time, energy as well as their efforts to establish a university dedicated to teacher education on sound footings.

"We need to invest for intensifying of our educational so that we can deliver good education," he said.
