Lahore: The chairperson of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin has said that medical education should be reconfigured to produce strictly competent, socially sensitive, ethically correct as well as ready-to-serve health professionals who can respond to the various demands of growing health needs of the country.
He was addressing a ceremony held in association along with the second convocation of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Thursday.
Total 212 graduates were presented degrees and awarded medals at the convocation that included four PhDs, 134 MPhils, 43 MS while master’s masters among others.

The candidates who were awarded doctorate degree included Dr Taquayya Sultana Abidi (anatomy), Dr Nadia Naseem (morbid anatomy and histopathology), Dr Abdul Mannan Babar (surgery) and Dr Azhar Qayyum (morbid anatomy and histopathology).
Besides, 16 graduates were awarded 'Best Graduate Gold Medal' for their brilliant performance in university exams.
The 'Hajvery Foundation Gold Medal' for the overall best graduate in MPhil was presented to Amina Akram of the Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lahore.
Madiha Shakoor of the UHS also received the same medal.

For the overall best gradate in MBBS, 'M H Mubbashar Gold Medal' was presented to Iqra Arshad of the Shalimar Medical and Dental College, Lahore (2009-2014) as well as Hira Saleem of the Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College, Lahore (2010-2015).
In BDS, Maliha Mumtaz (2010-2014) and Hadia Arshad (2011-2015), both from the Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, Rawalpindi, were awarded 'B A Yazdani Gold Medal' for the exceptional performance.
In his address, the vice chancellor of University of Health Sciences Major General (R) Prof Muhammad Aslam advised the graduates to have a fruitful attitude and think in terms of solutions, not in term of issues.

He furthermore said that more than 75k students were registered along with the university, which was offering over 100 programmes in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, allied health sciences and nursing.
He furthermore added that the university had 113 publications and over 1,500 certifications in indexed journals during 2015-2016.
