Lahore: The government of Punjab has launched "Shahbaz Sharif Merit Scholarship (SSMS)" under which the eligible male as well as female candidates, according to the eligibility criteria set for this scheme from time to time, will be granted scholarships for Ph.D level Education at the top ranked universities across the world.
Shahbaz Sharif Merit Scholarship (SSMS) is a world-shattering step of the Punjab Government which will permit the youth to study at the top ranked educational institutes of the world and play their role in strengthening as well as in uplifting the economy of the country.

The scholarship scheme put emphasis on the meritorious students of Punjab while allocating a special quota for the aspirants of other federating units of Pakistan as well.
The aspirants fulfilling the given eligibility criteria shall be eligible to apply for these scholarships:
1) Valid PhD admission offer from one of the Top 50 (Subject Wise) Universities of the World (QS ranking) in preferred subject areas (www.peef.org.pk/phdscholarship.asp)
2) Not less than 60 percent marks throughout the academic career.
3) Declared monthly income of family (including self, spouse and parents) is equal to or less than Rs. 200,000/-
4) Maximum age of 35 years on March 31st, 2017.
5) Not availed any international scholarship in the past.
6) Must take up the scholarship in the year for which it is offered and the scholarship shall not be postponed to the next year.
7) Residents of Pakistan, both males and females candidates are eligible to apply.

Important Note:
The existing permanent / regular faculty members of government sector teaching / educational institutions of Pakistan are not eligible to apply for Shahbaz Sharif Merit Scholarships (SSMS).
The PhD Scholarships awarded under SSMS are fully funded and these scholarships will cover the following costs:
o Tuition fees of the respective course
o Boarding & Accommodation (according to the approved rates)
o Air Fare
o The allocation of these scholarships will be as follows:
o 80 percent scholarships are reserved for the science disciplines.
o 20 percent of scholarships are reserved for Social Sciences or Humanities & Arts.
The geographical distribution of scholarships will be as follows:
o 90 percent scholarships will be granted to the students of Punjab.
o 10 percent scholarships has been allocated for the other coalescing units of Pakistan.
