PU to set up resource room for special students

Lahore, An up-to-date ‘Resource Room’ for blind, deaf, dumb and physically disabled students will be established in the library of the university, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said.

The vice chancellor declared it while addressing at a lunch presented by him for special students at the Executive Club. He further said that he always gave importance to these special students. All the deans, chairmen, directors and principals of affiliated colleges had been advised to cooperate with them for dogging higher education.

He said that he had already commanded the resident officer to manage a survey and make a practicability report about the construction of bathrooms and toilets for special students at hostels and faculties.

The VC also guided the PU Chief Librarian Muhammad Hanif to make measures for the establishment of a resource room having modern IT network, where special students could get advantage from the up-to-date books and other relevant material for higher studies.

An MPhil student of the PU Special Education Department, Sarfraz Ahmad Khan praised the efforts of VC for delivering of free education to all special students up to PhD level, besides free hostel, scholarships and transport facilities.

Institute of Education and Research Director Dr Mumtaz Akhtar, Dr Waqar Chaudhary, Special Education Department Chairperson Humara Asif Bano were also present on the occasion.

Muhammad Nadeem Malik, a blind student of the Urdu Department, and Madiha Arshad of Zoology Department declared that a musical evening would be organized in the next month followed by a dinner, where only regular special students would perform. PU Chief Librarian Hanif announced that he would bear all expenses of the event.
