PU and NUML shine in HEC’s debate contest

Islamabad, The 15th All Pakistan Inter-University Debate Competition was organized on Wednesday to award the Allama Iqbal Shield in which teams from Punjab University Lahore and NUML succeeded in Urdu and English categories.

HEC chairperson, Dr. Javaid Laghari was invited as a chief guest on the occasion. As many as 30 participants from govt and private institutes across the country took part in the competition and this was a final round.

Individually in English category, The first, second and third positions went to Waseem Gohar from Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar, Ahmed Nadir from University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Taxila and Shaheen Akhter from Karakorum International University Gilgit.

While in the category Urdu debates, Ahmad Talha Wali from University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore, Umer Khan Ufaq from Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology Karachi and Hamza Hameed Tarar from University of the Punjab Lahore won first, second and third positions respectively.

The cash prizes of Rs 30, 000, Rs 25, 000 and Rs 20, 000 were awarded to the candidates who got first, second and third position respectively.

HEC Chairperson Dr. Javaid R Laghari and Executive Director Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed expressed their views and said from many years the HEC is conducting All Pakistan Inter-University Debate Contest and other events for the candidates of public and private universities.
 
The purpose of conducting this contest was to enhance the abilities and aptitude towards different issues like public, economic and other society issues. The first round of the contest was arranged by the respective universities in which all the departments of the universities and established colleges participated while the second round was conducted at universities of regional level at Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Federal, AJK and FATA/Gilgit-Baltistan.

The final round was conducted by HEC Islamabad in which the teams with highest score participated and comprising of two students and one individual top scorer student which was nominated in second round in English and Urdu categories.
