Lahore: Over 62,000 unemployed teenagers have been trained under the Punjab Skills Growth Strategy 2016 by Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA). The youngsters have been trained in Industry Demand Driven (IDD) courses that are appropriate for employment crosswise the province. There were more than 50 IDD courses on offer that the youth were trained for.
The chairperson of TEVTA, Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, reviewed the progress of these IDD courses during a meeting organized at TEVTA secretariat. Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Azhar Iqbal Shad, and Amir Aziz were the TEVTA officers that were also present at the meeting.
In a meeting, Irfan Qaiser said that the youth was being trained in 8 groups of 3 months followed by 4 batches of 6 months of IDD courses during the academic year of 2015-2016.

He furthermore said that these courses were designed along with the consultation of concerned industries. As per Irfan Qaiser, there are 37 courses for the boys, 9 for the girls whereas 4 courses for both genders.
According to him, these courses are offered at more than 300 TEVTA Institutes across the province. He said that these efforts are being made on the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. The main objective of this program is to offer the unemployed youth along with the essential skills for employment without adding any financial burden on them.
To meet the traveling expenditures of the youth in the program, a monthly income of PKR 1000/- is being provided together with free books and consumables. The registration fee for the Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) was also given by TEVTA.
