PMDC rejects registration of Fatima Jinnah Medical University

LAHORE: Due to the non-fulfillment of legal requirements, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has categorically denied the registration of Fatima Jinnah Medical University.

FJMU has received a major blow to its status, the medics’ community is shocked and the future of the university is also at risk. This issue has raised many questions over the performance of the provincial government, putting stamp on its ignorance towards medical education.

An official of SHC&ME department said on this occasion that FJMU has been facing several challenges from the start. He said that Punjab Assembly had deliberately ignored and passed the FJMU Bill, 2015, in which the age of Vice Chancellor limits to 61 years, while the government has fixed the age limit of VC’s of all public sectors universities of the province in 2012 up to 65 years. He also added that the university is yet to be recognized as a registered medical university by PMDC.

Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam has already written a letter to PMDC’s Council requesting to declare FJMU as a recognized medical university, after conducting its inspection so that the post graduate courses could be started.

In response to this PMDC has turned down this request, stating that FJMU does not meet the required criteria.

Thus, Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam continued unavailable to reply regardless of various efforts.
