Rawalpindi, Around 17,000 solar energy uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units would be distributed by the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif among the students of 9th and 10th class of government schools of all the four districts of Rawalpindi division on Thursday (today).
The distribution ceremony will be arranged at Arid Agriculture Pir Mehar Ali Shah University. The UPS units would be distributed by the provincial government among students who have more than 55 percent marks in their annual examinations under Ujala Program.
A total of 5,435 students from high schools of Rawalpindi district are nominated to get UPS device each to continue their studies at nights without interruption.
The city district government, Rawalpindi assembled the data and discovered that the girl students of government schools are hardworking and better than boys across the district, as 3,468 girls have gained 55 percent marks in both 9th and 10th grades, while around 1, 967 boys were selected to get energy units.
The government would bear the cost of donating UPS device in Rawalpindi of Rs108 million.
Experts would connect these UPS units in houses of the students in villages, tehsils and city areas after the distribution ceremony, according to the Saqib Zafar, district coordination officer (DCO).
He further said that each UPS device could be beneficial for three rooms. The CDGR had set up seven depositories in all the seven tehsils of the district to keep the UPS devices provided by the provincial government, said Mr Zafar.
Around 21 students from tribal areas get scholarships during a ceremony organized at Institute of Management Sciences (IMS) Peshawar.
The scholarships were given to deserving students of tribal areas under IMS Fata Scholarship Program by Arshad Majeed, the secretary of Fata Investment Facilitation Authority (Fifa), Fata Secretariat.
