Lahore High Court on Tuesday call upon the Secretary of Higher Education Commission to explain why the vice chancellors were appointed in four public sector universities in spite of giving the stay order.
Advocate Saad Rasool claimed that the procedure of hiring Vice chancellor in the four government sector universities followed by the Punjab government was not under its territory.
CM of Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has decided to stop additional processing on the appointment of Vice Chancellors at four government sector universities till the judgment on two appeals given by Lahore High Court.
Saad Rasool said that supremacy in the government varsities is an important issue that is connected with the complete higher education procedure and in fact it falls under the dominion of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Upon hearing the claims, Lahore High Court Justice Shahid Karim ordered Higher Education commission to present its perspective on this matter through their assistance during the next hearing that is to be organized on 15th March.
Moreover, the court ordered that if HEC failed to do so then the secretary of commission would have to appear in person to explain the viewpoint in the subsequent hearing.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Shahbaz has decided to hire Dr Zakria Zakar, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences at University of the Punjab, as a Vice Chancellor.
Out of the 3 nominated applicants for position of VC of Punjab University, the Search Committee gave highest marks to Dr Zakria Zakar, followed by Dr Zafar Moeen Nasar and Dr Mujahid Kamran.
At the same time, chief minister has also decided to finalize the name of Dr Tahir Kamran, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Science at Government college University Lahore, as the new Vice Chancellor for University of Sargodha (UOS).
So far, Shahbaz Sharif has not finalized the names of VC’s for Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology, Multan.
