Lahore, Lahore College for Women University is going to open its new campus in Kala Shah Kaku, for this purpose all the measures have been taken and pc 1 has been made and sent to Govt.
According to sources, the new campus will comprised of several academic blocks, administrative blocks, libraries, auditorium and hostel facilities will also be provided to students. According to the estimation of Assistant Commissioner Tehsil Ferozwala, over 311 million has been reserved for100 acres of land for the campus.
The required amount for this purpose would be taken from the annual budget 2012-13 allocated to the varsity. The land will be purchased in the current year and construction will be started in the next year.
There will be 4 new faculties, 4 new departments and 7 other departments in the campus. Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences would be included in the new Faculties.
Under these 4 faculties 28 new departments would be established.
Moreover, Institute of Women Leadership and Learning, Institute of Design and Visual Arts, Institute of Education and Institute of Language and Cultures would also be established under these faculties.
LCWU announced that it would award “15 Malala Yousafzai scholarships” for girls from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas.
LCWU Vice Chancellor Sabiha Mansoor said the scholarships would be awarded at the request of the LCWU Student Council. 10 scholarships will be awarded to bachelor’s degree and five for Masters and PhD. The scholarships will include hostel accommodation. She said Malala Yousafzai had defied those who wanted to impose their nefarious agenda under the cover of religion. Malala followed her education without bending to threats. She stands as a symbol of hope for women’s empowerment through education, she said.
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) was established in May 1922 as an intermediate residential college at Hall Road Lahore. In 1950, it was shifted to the present building at Jail Road Lahore. On 1st August 1990 the college was given administrative and financial autonomy and in August 1999 given the status of degree awarding institute and this was upgraded to the level of university in September 2002. The university has more than 7800 students’ enrollment and up to 450 faculty members.
