Higher Education Department announces 50K more scholarships for students in 2017

Lahore: Punjab Higher Education Department will distribute 50 thousand more scholarships in 2017 whereas the total worth for Punjab Educational Endowment Fund will reach Rs 11 billion.

The Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakia Shahnawaz headed a meeting on Tuesday about the distribution of scholarships among poor as well as talented students in 9 regional headquarters under the hood of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF).

The vice president of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Dr Amjad Saqib gave updates on the programme of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Campaign 2016.

In the meeting he said that the main target of the programme was talented aspirants of low-income families of deprived regions who cannot continue their studies because of the financial issues.

He said that PEEF will reach out to such students and offer them a chance to benefit from the revolutionary programme of the provincial government. The aspirants of Gilgit, FATA, Azad Kashmir and Balochistan could also benefit from it, he added.

Dr Saqib furthermore said HED provided 150,000 scholarships of worth Rs7.45 billion till June 2016. He said that Punjab Higher Education Department was evolving a publicity campaigns on the programme at public level and aspirants, their parents, teachers, sponsors, political leadership, civil society and mediamen will also be involved in these campaigns.

The Provincial Minister Zakia Shahnawaz while giving the approval to the programme ordered to send its summary ASAP to the chief minister. She said that this scholarship distribution programme will definitely assist the talented students in completing their education.

She moreover said that this programme will also assist in lessening the poverty. Provincial Secretary of Higher Education Department, Captain (R) Dr. Naseem Nawaz, Additional DIG Operations Shahzada Sultan, Special Secretary Higher Education Tahir Yousaf, Dr. Kamran Shamas, Deputy Secretary Information Admin Hina Pervaiz and also Deputy Secretary Higher Education Irtiza Naqvi were present in the meeting.
