HEC organizes 15th All Pakistan Inter University Declamation Contest

Lahore, The Regional Center of Higher Education Commission Lahore has conducted a regional round of 15th All Pakistan Inter-University Declamation Contest. The contest was organized to present Allama Iqbal Shield at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

Around 72 debaters from 31 public and private sector universities in Punjab took part in the declamation contest. The contest was centered on a title: “Education is the most effective weapon against the rising tide of extremism”.

First three positions in the English declamation contest were taken by Ahmed Nadir of UET, Taxila; Umar Khayam of PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi; and Safia Zia of University of Gujrat, respectively.

In Urdu contest, first three positions were taken by Hamza Hameed Tarar and Salman Tariq of Punjab University, and Talah Wali of UET, Lahore, respectively.

The top three winners in English and Urdu declamation contests, respectively, were awarded cash prizes and shields.

The highest scoring team and one overall winner of each English and Urdu declamation contest (six students) qualified for the final round of All Pakistan Inter-University Declamation Contest for award of Allama Iqbal Shield 2012, which will be conducted the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, in March or April, 2013.

Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman while awarding shields and prizes to winners praised their effective contribution. He further said that universities’ students must contribute in the co-curricular activities along with curricular activities.

hief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced that a medical teaching hospital will be made in Khairpur. The purpose of teaching hospital is to deliver better health facilities to local people.

Addressing the foundation-stone laying ceremony of Khairpur Medical College linked with Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), he said that the PPP government is intended to provide better health facilities and quality education to the masses and for this purpose the assigned budget has been increased.
