Islamabad, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided that from this session MBA degree would be equivalent to MPhil. After passing the MBA exam candidates would be eligible to apply for PhD admission. The decision was taken in a meeting of HEC National Business Education Accreditation Council.
More than 30 representatives of business schools participated in the meeting and it was presided over by Professor Muhammad Amanullaha Khan. It was decided that after completion of 4-Year
BBA program, a 2-Year of
MBA will be required and after that there wouldn’t be any requirement of MPhil degree.
Representatives of various recognized universities avoid to participate in the session and these institutes are Quaid-e-Azam University, Karachi University, Punjab University, LUMS, Peshawar University, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Islamia University Bahawalpur, COMSATS, FAST and various other business schools are included in it. The representatives of these universities argue that it will create an uncertain condition among the students. Now an individual completes his/her graduation in age of twenty one year but after that they could complete the degree around twenty four years of age. It will also affect the number of students intending to pursue higher studies at MBA level. The decision will be implemented from Fall semester 2014.
