Lahore, A well up-to-date medical college is being set up at the Government College University GCU Lahore with the immense donations given by the group of renowned Old Ravians.
GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman revealed this news at the campaign of the GCU EFT. The sum of Rs 20 million were collected for the deprived and needy students of the university. Federal Minister for Law Ahmar Bilal Sufi, Lahore High Court Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan, Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister Zia Haider, EFT Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt and renowned Old Ravians businessmen across the country were also present on this occasion.
GCU VC Prof Rahman expressed his views on this occasion and said that globally the development and advancement in education sector has been raised but unluckily Pakistan is not meeting the standards and is not giving it importance as needed. All the developed countries have made achievement through its education sector, he added. He further said that a committee including the donors will be established to avail the resources and complete it as soon as possible. From seven years Iqbal Z Ahmed is funding with one million rupees for the GCU Endowment Fund to provide educational facilities and scholarships to needy students.
If the supports and donors will continue their support the scholarships and educational assistance will be continued for all the financially deprived students for 10 years.
The Government College, Lahore got the status of a University in 2002 and became a seat for higher learning. It was renamed as the GC University Lahore. The GCU is working to enhance and promote quality of education across the country.
This Institution is one of the oldest seats of higher learning in the Muslim world. GC University joins old traditions and modern educational standards to meet the international standards established the by persons like Dr. Leitner, philosopher the poet, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and the Noble Laureate, Dr. Abdus Salam.
