Lahore, Govt. College GCU and Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore has shown mutual understanding to open the doors of their laboratories and other equipments for each other to facilitate young researchers while LCWU is going to open its new campus in Kala Shah Kaku, for this purpose all the measures have been taken and pc 1 has been made and sent to Govt.
Addressing as Chief Guest at “One Day National Symposium and Poster Presentation on Material Sciences” in LCWU, Vice Chancellor GCU Dr. Khaliq-ur-Rehman said that we all have to make efforts to prove science useful for a common man. For this purpose collaboration is necessary among numerous disciplines of science.
Vice Chancellor LCWU Dr. Sabiha Mansoor, in her address, appreciated the idea of mutual cooperation of research and academics between two pertinent universities. LCWU has setup directorate for faculty development and internationalization. Both universities can also enhance cooperation in this area too, Dr. Mansoor added.
The Debating Society of Government College University (GCU) has won the All Pakistan Declamation Contest conducted by Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad.
Conference was organized by the Department of Physics LCWU. Delegates from UET, GCU, Punjab University and Islamabad participated. Chairperson Physics Department Mrs. Yasim Ali, Registrar Dr. S.E. Benjamin, Deans Dr.Kousar Cheema, Dr. Farhat Saleemi, Prof. Riffat Saqlain, Prof. Ayesha Roohi, Director Administration Ali Rizwi and HoDs were present in the event.
The delegates highlighted that Material science is an interdisciplinary field applying the properties of matter to various areas of engineering and applied science. This scientific field investigates the relationship between the structure of materials at atomic or molecular scales and their macroscopic properties. It incorporates elements of applied physics and chemistry. With significant media attention focused on nano science and nanotechnology in recent years, materials science has been forced to the head at many universities.
Materials science also deals with fundamental properties and characteristics of materials. Modern material science evolved directly from metallurgy but a major breakthrough in the understanding of materials occurred in the late 19th century
