Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and Omar Asghar Khan Centre for Development (OAKCD) signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) for working together to promote inclusive, equitable as well as quality education through capacity-building, research and sponsorship as well.
Under the hod of this signed agreement, the two sides will work out on a joint policy that would be targeted to initiate, implement as well as coordinate educational interventions pertaining to capacity building and research promoting quality education.
They also agreed to associate with one another for the establishment of “Information & Research Center on Inclusive Education” at the main campus of AIOU.
The VC of AIOU Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui signed the Memorandum of understanding on behalf of AIOU whereas the OAKCD was represented by its chairperson Ms. Samia Raoof Ali.

Dr. Siddiqui expected that this signed agreement between two parties will assist in developing the positive and constructive attitude both at the level of faculty as well as the students. This is a part of the concerted efforts of the varsity to promote capacity-building of the staff as well as to attain the ultimate objective of quality education.
He furthermore said that the university was enhancing its collaborative partnership along with the national as well as international institutions to facilitate the aspirants in their educational pursuits. He highlighted the importance of education for special students and said a speech-therapy centre would be established for the needy students.
AIOU is already providing totally free education to the handicapped as well as visually impaired students.

The chairperson of department of special education, Dr. Tanzila Nabeel of AIOU emphasized the main objectives of the document and thanked the OAKCD for its support in teachers’ training as well as the professional development for other programmes.
