Six Pakistani Universities have made their place in QS university rankings 2015-16. All of these universities managed to reach the Top 800 universities in the world.
The general rankings tendency for Pakistani universities has gone downward this year, bbecause currently all the universities are ranked below the Top 500 grade. The universities which made its place in the world universities ranking list of QS are:
National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad
Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lahore
University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore
University of Karachi, (UOK) Karachi
The University of Lahore, (UOL) Lahore
National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) achieved to top Pakistani universities this year as well. NUST ranked amongst 501-550 in the world universities ranking and down from 401 in 2012-13 and it was at 481 last year. Presently NUST is ranked at 119th in Asia.
Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad reached the 651-700 position and came second among Pakistani universities. However it’s ranked is higher as compared to NUST in Asian rankings at 116th.
Since 2012-13, Pakistani universities have gone down by more than 100 places in rankings
The rest of the 4 universities; Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore, University of Karachi, The University of Lahore (UOL), all rank above 701 and below the 800 places. LUMS comes 161st in Asia whereas the other rest of universities ranked amongst 251 to 300. All of these universities were ranked amongst 601-650 in the world universities ranking of 2012-13.
The overall descendant trend is unsatisfactory to say the least since the universities of Pakistan have been moving ahead very nicely up till 2012-13 as well as rising in the graph charts. It all went downwards from there for all top universities which have fallen by above 100 positions for the last two and half years.
The administration of university, Higher Education Commission as well as the government should look into the matter to learn what instigated the in Higher education standards of Pakistan.
