Karachi: After the declaration of results of intermediate (arts group) students and special group, Board of Intermediate and secondary Education Karachi (BIEK) has finished the results declarations for the academic year 2016.

The passing percentage for the intermediate exams (arts group) remained at only 40% and 60% candidates failed to pass their annual exams for inter level.

“The results have been constantly the same since the last 3 years and it is sad to see that our aspirants are failing to show good results in arts,” said examination controller Imran Khan Chishti during the announcement of the result in the award ceremony at the BIEK office on Monday.

“The education department must take important steps and actions should be taken against why there is no concept of regular classes as well as also review the admission policy,” he added.

While complaining regarding the the promised scholarships, the chairperson of BIEK Akhter Ghauri said that announced scholarships to the position holders of last year have yet to be approved. He said he will also write to the chief minister to get the scholarships approved and announce more scholarships for the brilliant students.

He furthermore said that the results for first year annual exams 2016 will be announced in the first week of November.

Result statistics

As per the controller of examinations total 11,111 students were registered in the annual exams of arts regular whereas 10,940 appeared in the papers conducted in May 2016. Total passing percentage for these exams remained at 39.73%.

In the annual exams for regular group, just 5 aspirants managed to get an A-1 grade or score above 80 percent marks whereas 144 students secured A grade.

Almost 780 students cleared their exams with B grade and 1,761 candidates received a D grade in their inter results.

Position holders

Top three positions were clinched by the aspirants of Iqra Huffaz Degree College. Hafiza Asna Siddiqui secured the first position by obtaining 945 marks out of 1100.

Her class fellow Hafiza Haniya Waqas secured second position with 85.64 percent marks whereas Hafiza Lubaba Mustaqeem clinched the third position.

In the arts private group, total 9,746 candidates appeared in the exams and the passing percentage remained at 42.8%, which is an increase from the 41% pass percentage of last year.

No student secured A-1 grade whereas 58 students obtained the A grade.

Special group Students result

From 94 students who appeared in the exams, 93 passed with 49 students obtaining A-1 grade and 41 getting the A grade.

Distribution of Cash prizes among position holders

The position holders were given cash prizes as well as gifts from the board. The cash prizes of Rs100, 000 were given to the student who got the first position, Rs50, 000 and Rs30,0 00 to students with second position and third positions, respectively.

All the position holders were also awarded with gold medals by Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan.
