Islamabad: Approximately 200 MPhil and PhD scholars who were sent abroad by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan have not returned to the country after the completion of their degrees.
A representative of Higher Education Commission told that “In the last five years, the HEC give out 4,212 national as well as international scholarships between the students and 200 of them availed foreign scholarships”.
The Higher Education commission was still expecting that the scholars may return, though, they have neither replied to the notices issued to them nor have they informed Pakistani delegations in their respective countries regarding their return, he said.
The representative moreover said that some of the aspirants slipped after they availed the first installment of the scholarship plus they might have settled in the countries where they had gone, leaving the authorities of Higher Education Commission in a confounded condition.
He said that HEC has been sending notices to the missing scholars; however they have not been in contact for years.
