Mingora: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Monday said that the government was providing financial and material resources however the teachers and parents should continue to play active role for the grated conducive learning environment.
During his address as the chief guest at the first convocation of the University of Swat, he said, “Our young generation is so talented. It is equally important to make the required opportunities, resources as well as encouragement available to them to be able to compete in the developing environment.”

The first batch consists of 195 graduates. The ceremony was also attended by Advisor to Prime Minister Amir Muqam, lawmakers from Swat as well as vice chancellors of government sector universities of the province, educationists and also by the parents of the graduating students.
Almost 50 students were awarded gold medals for accomplishing distinctions in their respective disciplines.
The governor advised the students and teachers to work hard to ensure that Pakistan emerged as a strong, developed as well as pulsating state.

Further, he appreciated the academic as well as research programmes and desired that the University of Swat acted as an engine for the growth and progress in this zone.
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra praised the faculty for their strenuous efforts in offering a strong base of research and studies in the field of Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Computer & Information Technology at the campus.

In the meantime, the governor, who is also chancellor of the university, headed a meeting of the Senate of university. The senate approved budgetary estimates for 2016-17 and the actual budget for the year 2015-2016.
Formerly, Vice chancellor of the University Dr Jehan Bakht presented the annual report highlighting achievements of the varsity. The university announced 1 month salary as bonus for the staff members.
