1,400 students get degrees at GCU 11th convocation

Lahore, Girls overtook boys in the 11th convocation of the Government College University, Lahore and got top positions and medals in the 17 programs out of 27 disciplines at BA/BSc (Honours) level. Overall 1,400 students got degrees and medals including 57 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in science, arts and literature.

Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, was supposed to chair the convocation but to some reasons he did not come. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman supervised the event which was also managed byDean Prof Dr Islamullah Khan.

Boys showed their performance in co-curricular activities and got distinctions in 14 activities out of 20 and in 10 academic disciplines. Addressing the students, VC congratulated the students and praised their efforts. He further said that educational budget should be upraised to a minimum of four percent of GDP and the government should also provide more grants to universities according to the needs.

GCU is collaborating with industries and research organizations from the last two years to enhance quality of education and had contracted 29 agreements for this purpose, he added.

Later, VC awarded degrees, gold medal and roll of honours among the brilliant students in curricular, co-curricular and sport areas. A total of 57 scholars got PhD degrees in several subjects of science, arts and literature.

The Government College, Lahore was raised to the status of a University in 2002. It was renamed as the GC University Lahore. The academic life has been re-shaped in harmony with its new challenges. The GCU is committed to act as a promoter of quality education for all.
